Large-Scale Convention Centre Expansions Provide Exciting Opportunities for GTA Trade Shows

GTA trade shows must be growing, in size and popularity, since many of the main convention centres of the area are expanding to accommodate. Hosting the biggest shows in Canada requires extensive ballroom space as well as a wide selection of meeting rooms. These centres also have to be up to date on the latest technology to match the newest presentation equipment clients are bringing in.

TradeshowWeek.com reports on the current redevelopment taking place in the Direct Energy Centre & Exhibition Place in Toronto. Redesigning one building (that was used previously for exhibition space only) into a conference centre by 2009 will give the Exhibition Place the extra meeting rooms and ballrooms it needs to serve its clientele. Another project currently underway, and near completion, is the 42,000 square foot expansion of the International Centre in Mississauga. The sheer size of the construction projects going on in these centres is unbelievable.

And of course, the most exciting new development is the 500,000 square foot expansion of the Toronto Congress Centre. BizBash Toronto reveals “the expansion brings the total size of the building to one million square feet- making it the largest privately owned convention and meeting facility in Canada”. The expansion also covers many features of the centre: from existing convention space to new meeting rooms, halls, cafés and lobbies. The new facilities and features of each of these Toronto convention centres will be able to increase the amount of trade show events as well as efficiently accommodate more technological needs, helping the industry grow even more.
